Ok, you asked for it. Here’s the house we’re renting now. These photos are from this summer yet and some of the furniture has changed (surprise!) but you can get the idea of what we’re working with.
First – this house is amazing, that should be said. We have more room, kids have their own bedrooms, there’s a basement and a back yard. We’re super happy here.
Problems: the kitchen is so very small. Actual wall space in the house is less than we had in our old apartment (but bonus, we have french doors with amazing glass). There are arches every where and our furniture fits – but not much else.
So – now that we’ve got that covered you get to order me around. Where do I start?
From the front door we have this awesome porch, where we read and the kids color and I work every day from the yellow desk.
From the porch you lead right into the living room, or our bedroom:
And the living room flows right to the dining room and there’s yet another door to our bedroom.
Our bedroom needs help, yes I know.
And the bathroom is connected to the bedroom but also a walkthrough to the kitchen.
Which apparently I’m against photographing? I don’t have any photos of the kitchen. The dining room leads to the stairs and has this awesome window seat.
At the top of the stairs is a landing, a small bathroom and then both kids’ rooms.
Our sons room:
Our daughters kingdom:
Yes, that is her closet. All hers.
And the basement is the basement. The couch from the living room in the photos above is now downstairs along with a few other things from storage – it’s the play room and has a laundry space, Aaron’s closet and a couple misc rooms for storage.
There you have it! Now. What should I do?
No great suggestions from me…yet. I just wanted to say that it does look like a fantastic place to call home and I LOVE that your Art Prize piece has a special place in your bedroom!
First off, amazing house, rental or not! The wall colors are awesome and so are those hardwoods!
If it were me, I’d do something with your master bedroom. For some reason, I’ve always left the master as the last and lowest on the priority list, but that’s so lame! It’s YOUR room make it a place you love!
Spruce up the bedding, maybe add curtains and some little touches of “flair” (simple and understated). Maybe a diy fabric headboard or something? Serenity is my new keyword for grown-up bedroom makeovers. Who doesn’t want a serene lovenest?!! š
Yes, I know!! That rooms needs some love. I just found some great ideas for headboards I’m going to try – and night stands, hanging lights vs floor lamps … all of the above. The colors and the hardwoods are so so nice. We didn’t have to paint!
You noticed? š Yup, I’m going to get the pair (a different day, and scene actually) of Oliver to hang somewhere too. “Pair” being the two of them – different photographs.
I’m gonna say… do the bedroom. Make it a place you like to be in. Bed frame and lamps on both sides that hang on the wall… no room for bedside tables. If you’re not wanting to do a full headboard, hand a patterned curtain from WAY up high and pretend it’s your headboard!! Just a few ideas! š
ha! I just “pinned” that exact idea for the curtain – love it.
What a great house. Everything looks so cute! I LOVE that porch. I need to come over š
awesome place! has a lot of charm! and i heard that you are neighbors with my cousin… (merrills)
neighbors with? neighbors to? hmmm
WOW!!! What great space you have!!! Love the layout and the character the house has! I recently upholstered an old, plywood headboard and it was super simple and cost $25. It will add so much to your bedroom! Keep us posted as you make changes!
That is an amazing rental! And I agree with everything Jody said. I’m redoing my house and my bedroom is last and it is so hard to stay motivated to complete it when it is at the end of the list.
Thanks Hope! I definitely will š
ha! Funny!!
Anytime Molly – you can help me decide what to do š
Thanks Melody! I’ll definitely focus on the bedroom first then š
