This post is part of a series called 100 Days of Poetry.
Be small, stay silent,
calm down, you’re too
I just don’t know how not to.
My entire life has been a very careful
prescription of shining just enough to pass
the test but never more.
I have been controlling the Illumination,
tightly winding myself up its coil to stop it
from being seen
Because I was never told, but always
taught, that to shine brighter than you
Would be the death of me.
