Day 2, part one.

Our kids were awake and HUNGRY at 5 am Colorado time this morning. It’s 7 Michigan time, which is normal for them – but no naps and all day travel yesterday and I was hoping for a bit of jetlag from my children.

None.

Day 1: Boulder, Co

Day 2: Pearl Street Mall

We couldn’t convince them that a little more sleep would be a good idea so we all got ready, ate breakfast and headed downtown for a morning walk. We caught the sun rising on our way in to town.

Day 2: Pearl Street Mall

The sky was breathtaking.

Day 2: Pearl Street Mall

Side note: I am a morning person. {Once I’m awake} I relish in the newness of a day. I often squeal and giggle and try to hug Aaron but he is. not. a morning person. Thankyouverymuch. At least now he laughs at me instead of trying to avoid it – my mood is inevitable when I realize we’re all up and the day has begun! Eeeeeee! Photos! The sun is up! Life is beautiful!

Are we the odd couple? One morning person and one night owl? Someone else join me here.

Here’s parts of the Pearl St Mall in before 8am. Magic.

(Thank you Jessica for taking photos, too!)

Day 2: Pearl Street Mall

Time for the keeping it real photo: our kids are runners (as in away from us in public spaces) and recently are terrible listeners. This is super fun on vacation, by the way. There’s plenty of these pow-wows in the middle of the sidewalk as we’re constantly reminding them not to run in oncoming traffic or to slow down … etc etc.

Day 2: Pearl Street Mall

A wake up cup of coffee at Atlas! And inevitably our morning always ends up like this:

Day 2: Pearl Street Mall

We rode around for a while this morning getting lost on purpose – just looking around and about 4 streets into our little adventure I just started crying. It feels so different here. Different doesn’t always mean better and new is always fun – there are things that don’t get in the way when you remove yourself from the last 20 years of your life and it’s roads … but it was just so peaceful. So right.

Boulder, Co

We made it! Yesterday was a day full of travel and I’m so glad to be on this side of it. We only had one flight (Thank you, Lord) but our entire family was split up in different rows and seats until Aaron used wide hand gestures and LOUD NOISES to ask the entire cabin of the plane if anyone was willing to play musical seat-assignment so we could atleast sit near our kids.

All he had to do was say “two small kids” and “not by their parents” … it came together quickly. I have decided, though, that I will be needing to be medicated on our next Airport Adventure.

I will say this again because I’m pretty sure my own mother was completely bat-shit insane to take four children through airports and on planes, on standby for years and years and years. How she did it? I will never actually know.

So! We are staying in an amazing little house (Website) we found on Airbnb.com – amazing. There is a Rain shower and a huuuuuuuuge claw foot tub. The living space is open and large and decorated with taste. We love it.

Boulder, Co Vacation Day: 1

Highly, 5 star, recommended.

Before we got settled here though we had some time to kill so we took a drive around town and into the mountains and finally stopped to explore and hike.

Folks? 2 things: An hour at the gym will never give me the workout climbing did today and hello, Beauty all around.

Behold.

Adventure: Here’s where we decided to climb over rocks we couldn’t see over. Like that the other side could possibly be a pretty vertical decline with little (to no) traction for safe climbing. At one point I had a kid on my neck, my camera and no way to stop myself from falling lots and lots of feet below. We still had time to Karate-chop and laugh. No worries.

The look from above: oh shit. Now what?

And when we finally made it to the bottom – we looked back and this is what we saw:

We hiked back to the car and took a few side trails along the way. It was a great afternoon.

We actually have zero plans which is the best way to travel if you ask me. Get lost? Yes. Spend a day stopping at every attraction that looks fun? Yes. Drink coffee and watch kids play in a yard because you literally do not have to be any where else? Um. YES.

I am very excited. We grabbed some groceries so we’ll be eating at the house often but I got some great tips on food, we have friends in the area and all kinds of natural beauty, gardens and parks to find and explore.

I’ll let you know what we find. (What are YOU finding??)
